CPR First Aid Training
CPR first aid training is primarily provided to first responders such as paramedics, firemen, and police, who receive CPR first aid training on manikins using a training CPR face mask where first aid skills are learned safely and effectively.  The CPR training learned, has ‘real world’ applications.  These CPR first aid skills will serve the first responders’ future careers where real life and death situations might be an every day event.
CPR Manikins
To be sure the CPR training is learned correctly and safely, students in receiving their CPR instructions are receiving that training on specialized manikins.  They might look like infant CPR manikins, child CPR manikins, or adult CPR manikins.

Training on manikins with the use of specialized
face masks for CPR training will fine tune first aid CPR skills to duplicate real life situations where an adult, a child, or an infant  has lost consciousness, and who is not breathing, and needs immediate CPR first aid.

First Aid CPR Safety
After calling 911, the first aid responder is ready to apply the life saving techniques of CPR.  The techniques applied to a manikin are no different from a real life situation.  For example, checking for life sign responsiveness, and making sure the victim’s airway passages are clear so CPR first aid can begin.

While prompt action is essential, the first aid worker will need to insure their own lives are also safe while administering CPR.  As part of this safety check, a CPR pocket mask will need to be retrieved from their first aid kit.  Of course, depending on the situation, a CPR shield inserted in a key chain pouch inside the responder’s pocket, or hung around his or her belt may prove to be more than adequate.
CPR Safety Training
Here, we outline in general the application of a CPR face mask used on a manikin.  It’s understood that the CPR training equipment used, not only represents safety and protection to the first responder during a ‘live situation,’ but actually delivers genuine protection in the class room situation as well.

Because CPR manikins are used repeatedly by fellow students, CPR face masks should offer immediate protection to each subsequent student by using new CPR face masks for each training event, and thus learning the essentials of the CPR first aid training course while at the same time each student's health is protected.
The CPR Training Course in General
After confirming the air way passage is clear, the student’s training includes they place a CPR face mask over the face of the manikin and tilt the manikin’s chin up slightly.  With the protective face shield in place, the student firmly places his mouth over the manikin’s while using his fingers to pinch the nose gently to prevent the escape of essential air needed for the the victim's (manikin's) lungs.  (see cpr face mask with victim's face outlined)

After blowing one breath of air into the lungs, the student observes the chest rising.  Then, waits while taking two breaths for themselves.  After this cycle, the procedure begins once again, looking for the ‘autonomic system’ of the victim to take over, that is, the spontaneous return of breathing by the victim (manikin).

If breathing does not return,  the pulse is checked to determine if the heart is beating. If not, chest compressions will be necessary to help restart the heart.  If the heart does not begin to beat,  breathing through the CPR face mask directly into the victims mouth and subsequently into the lungs of the victim (manikin) will again be necessary.

This cyclical process, alternating between breathing through the first aid mask
and into the victim’s mouth and thereby into the victims lungs, as well as alternating this procedure with chest compressions, is a procedure that will need to continue till the victim has been transported to a hospital and / or clinic where medical doctors can take over with the aid of additional medical technologies.
