The development of the CPR face mask for first responders has been driven by safety concerns for both the victim as well as first aid workers who are trying to save a life.
The medical face
, which was first developed for surgeons primarily to
protect the patient from viruses and bacteria brought into the operating
room possibly by attending nurses or surgeons, eventually morphed into the CPR face

found its medical applications in CPR first aid emergencies today.Because it comes with a supply of special materials, the primary function of the face mask in CPR first aid was, and is, to protect both the victim of an emergency as well as the first aid worker from secondary contamination.
Face Mask with outlines
The thumbnail image of a face mask to the right, outlines the human
face, thus when time is critical, the 1st responder can make quick and accurate use of the face mask using the outline to correctly fit the mask over the victim's face.
The one way face mask, also shown imaged to the right provides
additional features, such as a large transparent, face sized cover
much like the face mask shown above it. However, in the case
of the one way face shield, an elongated plastic projection is fitted directly into the mouth of the victim before CPR first aid begins.
The face shield's respirator is comprised of a number of layers that assures the passage of life giving air provided to the patient by the first responder during CPR administration; and at the same time the respirator provides a protective barrier against the passage of bacterial and viral agents from responder to the patient, or their passage from patient to responder.
Whether face masks are supplied with convenient key chains, or without key chains, the mask’s safety derives from the proprietary characteristics contained in the face mask's filter.
